After completing a fine art degree specializing in large scale monochrome and sculptural photography, I have returned to smaller scale mixed media painting.
The works use a combination of oil, acrylic, wax, ink and usually some organic material found at the scene of the painting.
I prefer to focus on the remoter parts of Faversham where I both live and work returning again and again to the wild beauty of Oare Marshes.
Using sketches and photographs taken when out on my bike, the final paintings often feature birds, in particular crows which are a metaphor for the derelict buildings appearing in my black and white photographs.
Influences: Masahisa Fukase, Hiroshima Sugimoto, Bruegel, Anselm Kiefer, Caspar Friedrich, Book of Hours.
